The Jacksonville Rotary Club and the Rotary District and the Rotary District offers two scholarships programs. The Club encourages all eligible students to apply to help support their academic careers. Students are welcome to apply using the forms that are downloadable from this site. Local Jacksonville Rotary Scholarships
The Jacksonville Rotary Club Scholarships
Available for college bound students. The amount awarded per scholarship will be $2,000.00.
For 2017, the Jacksonville ROTARY Club is offering Senior Scholarships to college bound students. The amount awarded per scholarship will be $2000.00. To be considered for this award an eligible student:
• MUST be a resident of the legally deﬁned boundaries of Jacksonville, IL School District 117, and
• Is a senior expecting to graduate in May-June of 2017 with plans to attend a four year institution of higher learning.
• Is NOT a child of a current Rotarian
Application scoring is weighted towards Community Service and Leadership Activities. If the applicant can document hours of community service and/or church service, and can easily express their scholastic goals, they will be competitive for this scholarship.The Ideal Candidate for this award:
• Is service minded and can document hours served with recognized groups such as Church and charitable organizations.
• Is career minded and can easily communicate aspirations for the future.
• Has geared their high school career toward college attendance.
• Has demonstrated leadership skills and can list areas where they have held leadership positions while in high school.
• Is an above average student.
The $2000.00 scholarship will be paid directly to the student’s selected school of higher learning on behalf of the student. The scholarship may be used toward tuition and/or school supplies including books.
Deadline for applications is March 24th, 2017. Notiﬁcation that application has been received will be within one week as long as a valid email address is provided, but no later than March 31st, 2017. Finalists will be interviewed the week of April 17th, 2017. The winner will be notified by April 21st, and schools notified by April 23rd, 2017.
2016 Staff Sgt. Matt Weikert Scholarship
Sgt. Matt Weikert was a graduate of Jacksonville High School (JHS). He was known for his leadership and his attitude of service above self. He served several tours of duty in Afghanistan where he gave his life for his country and our freedom. This memorial scholar-ship is given in his honor.
For 2017, the Jacksonville ROTARY Club is offering the Sgt. Matt Weikert Scholarship which will award $1000 to JHS Seniors and adults who graduated from JHS and will be attending Vocational School, Technical School or Community College. To be considered for this award an eligible student:
• MUST be a resident of the legally deﬁned boundaries of Jacksonville, IL School District 117 (current JHS students), or a resident of the State of Illinois (past JHS graduates) and…
• Is a Senior at Jacksonville High School expecting to graduate in May-June of 2017 with plans to attend a vocational school, technical school or community college in 2017, or…
• Is a past graduate of Jacksonville High School with plans to attend a vocational school, techni-cal school or community college in 2017.
Please note: this scholarship is NOT for a 4 year degreed program. Students seeking a 4 year program at a College or University should apply for the Jacksonville Rotary Scholarship. Children of current Rotarians are ineligible for this scholarship.
This $1000.00 scholarship will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient’s selected school. The scholarship may be used toward tuition and/or school supplies including books. This application is due by March 24th, 2017. Notification that application has been received will be within one week as long as a valid email ad-dress is provided, but no later than March 31st, 2017. The Rotary Scholarship Committee will interview selected ﬁnalists the week of April 17th, 2017, and notify winners of the scholarship(s) by April 21st of 2017.
District Rotary Scholarships
The May 15 deadline to apply for Rotary District 6460 academic scholarships is fast approaching. According to Scholarship Chair Kris Rosentreter of Carlinville, two types of scholarships are available to students who live in, attend school in, or graduated from a school in Rotary District 6460. This Rotary District encompasses an area roughly bounded by Quincy, Galesburg, Peoria, Springfield and the Illinois side of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
The District’s 2017-18 Domestic Scholarship of $3,000 requires the applicant to complete 24 hours of college credit prior to applying. This scholarship is for students majoring in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus, which include disease prevention and treatment, education and economic development. William J. Menghini Rotary District 6460 International Ambassadorial Scholarship
The District also offers an $18,000 William J. Menghini Rotary District 6460 International Ambassadorial Scholarship for students who have completed at least 48 credit hours of college. This scholarship requires the student to apply directly to an international university and be accepted there. This scholarship may not begin before September 2018, but should begin before September 2019.
Rotarians and their relatives are not eligible to apply for either scholarship.
